Muse 360 iPhone/iPad App
During The Resistance tour Muse filmed various concerts with MatiVision’s 360 degree cameras. One of the most iconic shows during that tour was the band’s performance at Reading Festival 2011. To mark the 10th Anniversary of ‘Origin of Symmetry’, Muse played the entire album live.
The best way to present the footage is by placing it in people’s hands. MatiVision developed an interactive iOS app that allows fans to immerse themselves in the show, controlling the 5 cameras and switching between them to piece together their own personalised performance.
MatiVision’s technology allows fans to seamlessly switch between the five cameras and adjust the viewport by sliding their finger across the screen. They can even use the device’s gyroscope to adjust the cameras by holding their device up and moving it around.
The core app is free to download and comes with 30second previews of some tracks. Full length videos can then be bought through in-app purchasing. Fans have the option of buying individual tracks or the full ‘Origin of Symmetry’ set at a discounted rate.
I worked alongside Muse’s management and MatiVision to project manage the release of Muse 360. Getting the app and all in-app purchases scheduled and ready for release took a lot of careful planning with teams in the UK and USA.
To promote the app I commissioned Mike Downs at EL Studios to create a trailer. He did an epic job creating a video to showcase the app and the epic Reading performance.
The trailer directs people to muse.mu/360app where we built a promotional page with previews of the 360 footage.
It was promising to see a very high conversion rate of people upgrading the free app by purchasing the videos. The app got off to a great start, entering the Top 5 downloads and top grossing charts in multiple countries around the world.
