A week before the new Muse album went on sale The Guardian hosted a stream of the full album for UK fans.

I built a custom Soundcloud widget to preview the album and included a video loop that animates the artwork while the songs play. The widget was an extension of similar players I’d built for Lianne La Havas and Slipknot.

I had prepared a full geotargeting functionality for the widget to ensure that fans end up on the correct media partner for their territory. I was away on holiday when the stream went live so we couldn’t risk launching the widget globally without me being on standby. Instead the player simply block any visitors from outside the UK.

I have since disabled the geoblocking and the player now only features 30second clips of the album.

The album stream was a huge success generating millions of listens.
