Two weeks before the release of ‘Opposites’ we streamed a live acoustic session by Biffy Clyro online. The 5 song set was broadcast on The Guardian website as well as My Old Kentucky Blog for American fans.

Alex Burford arranged the recording session with Mike Downs and Miles Tudor from Electric Light Studios. I regularly work with ELS for live streams so it was relatively easy to prepare the embed codes for the websites.

I wrote a custom embed code and set-up a jQuery countdown timer to build anticipation for the event. Tom Brown from Sinewave Design made some great looking stills to display before and after the event. At the stroke of 6:30pm the countdown switched over to the live stream embed code.

Throughout the event a bar was visible across the top of the video player encouraging people to tweet #BiffyAcoustic. The social call to action lead to the hashtag trending before they even reached the second song.

The live stream was a huge success and a week later the video embedded here was uploaded to YouTube for on-demand playback.
