Biffy Clyro #SummerOfBiff Dynamic Twitter Scrapbook

Biffy Clyro had one hell of a summer season in 2013, playing festivals all over Europe. The band’s management wanted to capture the events through the fans, so I proposed a digital scrapbook, filled by fans and curated by Biffy Clyro.
Fans were encouraged to tag photos and tweets with #SummerOfBiff. The best ones were then retweeted by the band, adding them to the scrapbook.
I used a legacy version of Turn.js to create the scrapbook with realistic page-turning effects. Kate Brighouse designed a beautiful book cover and blank pages for the template.
I wrote a php script to call the Twitter API and retrieve all Biffy Clyro’s tweets and retweets with the #SummerOfBiff hashtag. Each photo would be placed on the page in a polaroid-style layout with the caption scrawled underneath it. Any tweets without images would also make their way into the scrapbook creating a more realistic look.
Chloe Dunford and Tom Brown helped the band source the best photos and comments on Twitter and Instagram. There were lots of submissions but only a few made it into the scrapbook, so it was a real badge of honor for fans to be included and retweeted by the band.
