Fenech-Soler Tweet To Download Campaign

I’ve put together a number of great Twitter campaigns lately. The campaign I built for a free Fenech-Soler remix is one of my favourite.
During a brainstorming session we were trying to come up with a good visual representation for the number of tweets coming in. We finally settled on a vinyl record spinning while the arm of the record player moves closer to the middle as people tweet.
Kate Brighouse did a superb design job, laying out a record player on a wooden table with a few relevant objects referencing the Jamaican surfer feel of the Last Forever video.
I got to work building and animating the page. I used jQuery to update the progress every few second and rotate the arm of the record player according to the current campaign progress. The jQuery Rotate plugin proved to be incredibly useful for this and simplified the process immensely.
To display the progress as a percentage, Kate suggested a barcode on the record sleeve. I created the barcode with a few span elements and basic css before adding the progress indicator underneath it.
I then wrote a php script using oAuth to count tweets every few seconds and update a mySQL database accordingly.
The campaign looked fantastic with the very smooth animation.
