Photos: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (Honeymoon in Southern Africa Part 9)
After two weeks of camping we were looking forward to a real upgrade in luxury as we entered Zimbabwe and made our way to Victoria Falls.
Experiencing ‘the mist that thunders’ was a real bucket list item for both of us. This was the point where we had a more traditional honeymoon, by checking into the 5 star Victoria Falls Hotel. The food in the hotel was spectacular and we enjoyed a phenomenal 7 star dinner in a fancy dining hall that felt like we were in an old war-era film. We took the time to unwind with cocktails by the pool and upgrading from a tiny rooftop tent made us appreciate the four poster bed immensely.
Visiting the falls in early May meant that the water level was relatively high. This resulted in a lot of spray which was spectacular, but also meant that we couldn’t see much through the mist when standing near the falls. Fortunately we signed up for another incredible experience and took a helicopter flight over the area. Witnessing Vitoria Falls from above really put the size into perspective and provided unforgettable views.
